Getting to know Château de Sainte Croix

Welcome to Château de Sainte-Croix, where our passion for weddings and love for the enchanting surroundings of Southwest France come together to create unforgettable moments. We are the Weavers, Gavin and Tina, and we are thrilled to share our journey with you.

Our story

Our roots are deeply planted in farming, where hard work and dedication have always been a part of our lives. In 2013, as the landscape of farming began to shift, Gavin took a bold step towards diversification. He transformed old farm buildings in the Cotswolds, UK, into two beautiful holiday cottages. During this journey, Gavin met Tina, whose talent for crafting stunning interiors perfectly complemented his vision. Their shared passion blossomed, leading them to tie the knot in 2015 with the very first wedding at the farm.

The following years brought new challenges, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Rather than be discouraged, we saw an opportunity to evolve once again. With Tina’s exceptional eye for design and Gavin’s practical skills, we transformed the old grain barn into a beautiful wedding venue. Together, we quickly established a successful wedding business as soon as restrictions lifted.

The success of this venture inspired us to take a leap of faith. After selling a farm in the UK, we set our sights on the wonderful Château de Sainte Croix. Despite being uninhabited for 28 years, we united our talents to renovate the Château, restoring it to its former glory within just 18 months. Many said it was an impossible task, but our unwavering commitment and teamwork proved otherwise.

A history of the estate

The Château was constructed by the aristocratic Laulanié family in the 18th century. Notably, Mathieu Laulanié, known as the “Maitre des Forges,” was recorded in 1767 as residing in his Château in Sainte Croix while overseeing the operation of two forges that produced high-strength cannons for the King. In addition to the forges, he managed three grain mills and an oil mill, all situated along the River Couze.

Among the Château’s notable residents is the acclaimed French poet Martial Rouby (1895-1981), who has a plaque honoring his legacy in the nearby town square of Beaumont-en-Périgord. His connection to the property adds to its rich historical significance and cultural heritage.

After sitting vacant for 28 years, the Château captivated us with its stunning setting and exquisite interiors. Recognising its potential as a remarkable venue, we set out to restore it to its former glory. Our goal is not only to celebrate its history but also to create a vibrant future for the Château.
